adriuta foarte interesant articolul - multumim . Seamana cu sfaturile din Baby whisperer (apropos, o carte ge-ni-a-la!! The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer de Tracy Hogg).

5 greseli evitabile in adormirea bebelusului

3. Leganatul pentru adormire: Daca se intampla des, bebelusul nu va mai putea atipi decat in brate. Daca tinde sa adoarma in timpul alaptarii, trezeste-l usor inainte de a-l culca in patul lui.

4. Adormirea cu biberonul: Daca bebelusul va adormi cu biberonul in gura, laptele va ramane in gura, provocand colorarea dintilor si carii. De asemenea, adormitul cu biberonul in gura mareste riscul infectiilor de urechi.

5. Confuzia intre zi si noapte: Bebelusul nu va fi niciodata in stare sa doarma toata noaptea daca nu invata diferenta dintre lumina si intuneric. Pentru a ajuta bebelusul sa isi organizeze ritmurile naturale de somn, fa lumina in camera lui dimineata si in timpul somnului de peste zi. Si nu lasa lumina aprinsa noaptea."

Your Baby's First Year
Week 2
Black, white, and red objects are what your baby will see best. He will also love to study your face. Your newborn baby will focus best on objects that are between 8 and 14 inches away from his eyes -- this range seems to have been selected by nature as it is the distance at which a nursing baby sees his mother's face.
When your baby cries, try to comfort him -- very young babies cannot manipulate you or be spoiled by too much attention. Many studies have shown that parents who respond quickly and consistently to their baby's cries have babies who consistently cry less-- and the sooner they respond, the quicker their baby settles back down.
Some possible reasons for crying are:
• Hunger
• Sucking needs
• Reaction to change in his environment
• Over-stimulation
• Uncomfortable (wet or dirty diaper, to warm or cold, gas, etc.)
• Loneliness
How to comfort your crying baby:
• Offer him the breast or bottle, as he may be hungry
• Cuddle your baby
• Rock your baby -- regular repetitive motion soothes many babies.
• Swaddle your baby
• Take a warm bath with your baby -- the warm water and skin to skin contact will calm both of you.
Your baby's first doctors visit will be scheduled for around two weeks after birth. Your Pediatrician will take this time to get to know you and your baby, through asking about sleep and eating patterns and social activities. Your baby's measurements will be taken to check for overall physical development over the past few weeks. You may begin to feel exhausted from waking at night for feedings. Take naps during the day when possible -- sleep when your baby sleeps. The housework can wait!
Your Baby's First Year
Week 3
You may notice your baby will respond to loud noises. Though if repeated enough, he will learn to tune them out. You baby will respond to sounds by blinking, startling, frowning and waking from a light sleep. However, a sleeping baby need not mean a hushed household. Ordinary sounds and activities will not disturb him at this age. But, if everyone creeps about and speaks in whispers while the baby is sleeping, the time may come when he cannot sleep unless it is absolutely quiet. Therefore, it is important to let him sleep through whatever sound level is normal for your household.
If you are breastfeeding, it will have become more natural for both you and your baby. If not, then read some tips for starting out right. If you are experiencing breast pain, check with your doctor, for you may have a breast infection.
Some babies will begin to show signs of colic after their second week. If your baby has started crying, pulling his legs up towards his chest, for at least one hour, but often for 3 hours or more, he may have colic. Usually, a similar pattern repeats itself every day at about the same time, and is not seen at any other time of the day. Colic occurs in about 20% of babies -- the cause is unknown, however most pediatricians say that it is a result of an immature digestive system. Colic usually goes away by the 3rd month.
What you may be feeling and experiencing now:
• Continued vaginal discharge (turning brownish then yellowish white)
• Fatigue
• Breast discomfort or nipple soreness, until breastfeeding is well established
• Hair loss
• Constipation (although this should be improving)
• Gradual flattening of the abdomen
• Elation or depression or swings between the two
• A sense of being overwhelmed, or a growing sense of confidence or swings between the two
• Increased or decreased sexual desire
Your Baby's First Year
Week 4
Your baby will be watching, listening and picking up clues on how humans interact with each other, by studying your movements. He is also beginning to recognize immediate family members, and may respond to coos and smiles from others. But the real thrill is that in the next few weeks he will begin to "talk" himself - that is, coo, gurgle, grunt, and hum, to express his feelings. It's amazing how quickly they grow and change in the first few weeks!
It's not too early to create a routine for your baby that you follow every day. This will help your baby learn to trust his environment. It will also help him learn how to sleep through the night, by creating a ritual that is identified with bedtime. However, don't be dismayed if your baby continues to wake in the night for many weeks to come. When it comes to normal sleeping patterns, remember there are as many variations of normal as there are babies!
Many women now feel that they 'have it all' -- a beautiful baby and a wonderful partner -- but still feel depressed. This can be very troubling, but it is also very normal. Hormones may be the cause, although the experts have yet to provide any definitive explanations. About the only good thing that can be said about postpartum depression is that it usually doesn't last long (about 48 hours, for most women). Severe postpartum depression is rare -- affecting fewer than 1 in 1000 women. If your depression lasts for more than two weeks, and is accompanied by sleeplessness, lack of appetite, a feeling of hopelessness and possibly even aggressive or violent feelings toward the baby, call your doctor or seek counseling right away. You owe it to yourself and your baby to be happy.
Your Baby's First Year
Month 2
The first few months are truly a time of very rapid change and growth for your baby. If your baby hasn't given you a real smile yet, he will soon! Many very happy babies will wait until they are 6 or 7 weeks old before giving you their first real smile. Your baby will also start to coo, gurgle, grunt and hum -- a real conversationalist! It's important to talk (and even sing!) to your baby. Listen and watch your baby -- you will begin to understand his signals, which are the start of communication.
Although he may only be able to hold his head up for a few seconds, your baby's neck muscles will begin to get stronger, but he won't be able to support his head completely. Remember to provide the added support for your baby's head when picking him up.
Usually at around six weeks postpartum, your doctor will want to see you for a checkup. Although it varies, he or she will probably check the following:
• Blood Pressure
• Weight (which should be down by about 17 - 20 pounds)
• Your uterus, to see if it has returned to it's prepregnant size, shape, and location
• Your cervix
• Your vagina
• The episiotomy or lacerations if any; or if you had a cesarean, your incision
• Your breasts
• Hemorrhoids or vericose veins
• The method of birth control you are now using or plan to use
Make sure you make a list of any questions or problems you want to discuss. Many doctors will also want to see the baby at this time as well. You can expect the doctor to check the following:
• Baby's weight, height, and head circumfrence
• Physical exam
• Developmental assessment for things such as head control, hand use, hearing, vision and social interaction
The first round of your baby's immunizations may also be done now.
Your Baby's First Year
Month 3
Although your baby may not be very mobile yet, they learn new skills very
quickly. Injuries often happen when parents are not aware of what their baby can do. During the first months of life, babies learn to wiggle, kick, push, reach, roll over and put things in their mouths. Your baby needs special protection at this age from:
• Falling from beds or changing tables
• Choking on small objects
• Burns from hot liquids
SIDS is still a concern -- it is most likely to occur in babies around 2 to 4 months old. No one knows for certain what causes SIDS. However, there are some things you can do to reduce the risks:
• Have your baby sleep on his back or side, on a firm sleeping surface
• Breastfeeding your baby -- babies who are breastfed are at a lower risk for SIDS
• Keep your baby in a smoke-free environment -- cigarette smoke puts babies at a higher risk of respiratory infection and increases the risk of SIDS
• Keep your baby at a comfortable temperature -- not too hot, not too cold -- a good rule of thumb is to dress them in the same number of layers of clothing as you would wear, plus one more layer
Your baby is continuing to learn and grow each day. His eyes can now follow a moving object, and he can see objects from 15 to 20 feet away. Your baby will soon discover his hands, and will stare as he studies them and moves his fingers around. If you lie him on his back, he will reach for hanging objects and will swing at them, but will quickly lose interest if the object is too far for him to reach.
Your baby may soon treat you to one of the nicest sounds you will ever hear -- his laughter!
While many moms stay home with their children, more than half of moms are employed outside the home. There are so many decisions to make when selecting someone to care for your baby. If you are breastfeeding, consider continuing when you go back to work. If you're baby's care provider is close to your work, you may be able to go to your child at feeding times. If not, you can express milk for your baby -- you should practice, and start storing milk before you return to work. Once you've done your homework and selected appropriate childcare, you can feel confident that your baby's physical and emotional needs are being met while you are away.
Your Baby's First Year
Month 4
As your baby becomes so much more aware of the world around him, he becomes more sociable too. His personality will really start to emerge now, and you will both benefit from 'conversations'. Try imitating your baby's 'words' and sounds. It will delight him! Many researchers believe four-month-olds understand all the basic sounds that make up their native language. Although your baby may develop the ability to say mama and dada this month, he won't yet connect them with you.
His attention may wander during feeding sessions, as he notices his surroundings. He will likely eat fewer meals each day now. If you're wondering about solid foods now, let your baby tell you when he is ready!
Your baby will be sleeping around 15 hours a day now. He may (or may not!) be sleeping though the night, and taking two naps during the day. As your baby's sleeping patterns become more predictable, you will feel more rested, too! Take some time for yourself while your baby naps. Rather than rushing about cleaning, why not read, soak in the bathtub, take a nap or talk to other moms at The Baby Corner? The housework will wait! When it is time for housework, try to cut down on unnecessary household tasks. Let the dishes drain... plan simple meals... Once you have a system, housekeeping will become easier.

Your Baby's First Year
Month 5
Your baby is likely becoming a real social butterfly lately. He will thrive on attention and interaction from you and others. Over the next few months, he will begin to communicate his wants and needs in ways other than crying!
Your baby may now also show an increasing interest in his own image in the mirror, and may smile at his reflection! A good choice for a toy now is a baby safe, non-breakable mirror. He will actively respond to play, and will chuckle and laugh with delight. He may also be able to sit with support and holds his head even with his chest when pulled into a sitting position.
Many babies begin teething around 5 months. This can cause some babies pain or discomfort, but other babies seem to cut teeth with no fuss at all! The fact that a baby is cutting a tooth is often used to explain fretful or irritable behavior. Use caution -- believing your baby's behavior is due to teething may lead you to neglect a real illness. Be very careful if you use teething gels on your baby's gums. Many contain quite powerful drugs and if you happen to get too much gel in their mouths it can get into, and numb, their throats causing gagging.
Even though you've likely settled in fairly well to life with your baby now, things have changed and will never be the same again!
Your Baby's First Year
Month 6
As your baby learns about the world, he also learns about fun! And fun is what it's all about these days. Your six-month-old will love playing peek-a-boo, and he may be able to sort blocks or other toys by size. His fine motor skills are developing, too. Some of his new tricks may include transferring a toy from one hand to the other, banging objects together, and reaching for a toy using only one hand.
He may also:
• Wake up happy
• Holds out his arms to be picked up
• Sits alone briefly
• Rolls from his back to his stomach
• Pull his feet to his mouth and play with his toes
• Looks momentarily for a dropped object
By now, your baby should make lots of different sounds too. He will laugh, gurgle and coo with people that are familiar to him. He will look towards new sounds, and react to voices. He may also start to babble, just to get your attention! Babble back to him - you may feel silly using 'non-words', but to your baby it will all make perfect sense!
The infection-fighting antibodies that your baby was born with are beginning to diminish. Your baby may begin to get colds, particularly if they have older siblings, or are exposed to other children in day care. Attempting to keep your baby's hands and toys clean may be a losing battle.
Fevers are very common in childhood, and are usually caused by an infection or some other illness. It isn't the degree (or height) of your child's fever that represents how serious the illness is, it's your child's behavior. Sometimes a child with a minor infection will have a high fever, while a child with a severe infection might show no fever at all. You can check for a fever by taking an oral temperature, a rectal temperature, or an axillary temperature under the child's armpit (although axillary temperatures are not generally that accurate). Also available are thermometers for measuring temperature in the inner ear - these are the easiest to use on babies. If your child has a fever of over 39 degrees Celsius or 102 degrees Fahrenheit, it is very important to contact your doctor
Your Baby's First Year
Month 7
By the seventh month, your baby is showing more signs of being an independent little person. Many babies can sit well and some are even starting to crawl. But many babies will not creep or crawl for a few months yet. Some babies are able to pull themselves up to a standing position and cruise around the furniture, while others are content to wait a few more months before testing out these skills.
Other things your baby may be doing now include:
• Protesting if you take a toy or other object away
• Work to get a toy that is out of reach
• Pass objects from one hand to the other
• Play Peek-a-boo
• Babble and say 'ma-ma' or 'da-da'
• Look for an object that has been dropped
No matter how carefully you babyproof your home, your baby is bound to bonk his head, elbows or knees at some point. Lots of TLC from Mom or Dad is usually all that is needed to 'fix the boo boo'. If you haven't already done it, you should babyproof your home before your little one gets more mobile!
Many babies are ready to make the switch from strained foods to things with coarser textures. Suitable foods include mashed small curd cottage cheese (although some health care practitioners recommend no dairy products until after the 8th month), oven dried toast, mashed cooked fruits and vegetables. This is also the time when clear fruit juices (many mom's mix the juice with equal amounts of water) may be added to your baby's diet.
Your Baby's First Year
Month 8
Your baby may start to protest if you leave him too long, thanks to the onset of separation anxiety. This is the time when your baby may start to show extreme attachment to you, and a dislike for others.
Your baby may also:
• Protest when you take a toy or other object away
• Feed himself a cracker
• Get into a sitting position from his stomach
• Pick up a tiny object with his thumb and forefinger
• Understand (but not always obey!) the word "no"
• Crawl
Babies develop at such different rates in the first year. Just because your baby isn't doing some of the things mentioned here, it doesn't mean he is 'slow', just as a baby that has been doing these things for a while is not necessarily 'advanced'.
With a baby in the house, it's often hard to find time for yourself, or your relationship with your partner. It is important to make time for yourself and each other. A happy home makes for a happier baby too.
Your Baby's First Year
Month 9
Now that your baby has discovered how to stand, and maybe even cruise, in the last month or so, he will likely take this time to perfect his new skills.
Your baby may also:
• Pull himself up from sitting to standing
• Get into a sitting position from his stomach
• Stand while holding on to someone or something
• Wave bye-bye
• Play pat-a-cake
Some babies may even be:
• Drinking from a cup
• Standing alone well
• Say words other than ma-ma or da-da
His language skills are also developing rapidly. He's listening and taking in everything he hears. It's amazing what they understand at this age, too. Encourage him by talking to him as you would any other person. Your baby will likely start taking an active interest in conversations, even if not directed at him. Soon, he will start to shout for your attention! A more distinct personality will start to shine through now, too.

Your Baby's First Year
Month 10
Many babies are babbling up a storm now. There is no point in trying to identify those first words, though. His expressive, fluent, and varied jargon is assurance that he will talk in 'real words' when he's ready. Even if your baby doesn't talk much, he can probably communicate his wishes well through pointing and grunting.
Your baby may also:
• Drink from a cup
• Stand alone well
• Say words other than ma-ma or da-da
• Play peek-a-boo
• Indicate wants and needs in ways other than crying
Many parents also expand their baby's diet now by including:
• Bagels
• Unsalted soda crackers
• Orange and tomato juices
• Small pieces of peeled, soft fruit
• Cottage cheese
• Yogurt
• Ground or finely chopped meats
• Egg yolk
Your baby's first birthday is fast approaching. Many parents plan for the occasion for months, while others just have a small celebration with little advance preparation. What will you do?
Your Baby's First Year
Month 11
Eyes and ears and mouth and nose! Many babies will be able answer questions such as "where is baby's nose?" by pointing it out. Many babies also take their first steps at this age.
Your baby may also:
• Pick up tiny objects between his thumb and forefinger
• Understand the word "no"
• Get into a sitting position from his stomach
• Wave bye-bye
• Push, throw, and knock things over
Many moms who are breastfeeding wean their baby around the first birthday. If this is your choice, start thinking about it now - weaning should be a very gradual process. If you decide to breastfeed into the second year, don't let others discourage you!
Your Baby's First Year
Month 12
Happy Birthday, Baby!
It may be very hard to believe that your little baby is almost one year old! The past year has brought so many changes and challenges (and there are more to come in the toddler years!)
Your baby may now:
• Cruise the furniture or walk
• Drink from a cup
• Stand alone momentarily
• Say ma-ma and da-da indiscriminately
• Help blow out the candle on a birthday cake!
Many parents also expand their baby's diet now by including:
• Whole wheat bread
• Rice
• Pasta
• Cooked vegetable pieces
• Mashed potatoes
• Fresh and canned fruit pieces
• Small, tender pieces of lean meats
• Whole milk
Soon, your baby will seek more independence. He is no longer a baby, but a not yet a child. He is somewhere in between - he is a toddler now.
