Personalitate a vietii politice din Romania, īn 1926, a fost constituit prin fuziune Partidul National-Taranesc. A detinut functia de presedinte al partidului 1933, din noiembrie 1937 si pana in momentul dizolvarii partidului - 30 iulie 1947.
A fost prim-ministru in mai multe randuri, 1928-1931 (cu o intrerupere de cāteva zile, la revenirea regelui Carol II) si din nou, pentru cāteva luni, in octombrie 1932.
