injectii? | Autor: Kylie

Cica se gasesc in Timisoara.
Martha, nu stii cum se numesc acele injectii? Sau macar in ce oras se gasesc?
Si sigur au efect sau nu stii exact?
Anyone who knows ??

"Until recently, the most common medical abortion regimen in the United States involved the use of methotrexate and misoprostol and was typically limited to the first seven weeks of pregnancy. Methotrexate is a folate antagonist that inhibits DNA synthesis and cell division. Misoprostol is a prostaglandin E analogue that causes uterine contractions. It binds to receptors on uterine muscle cells causing an increase in calcium production, which stimulates myometrial contractions. Possible side effects of misoprostol include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and low-grade fever or chills.

A woman may be given a dose of methotrexate orally at 50 mg/m2 followed three to seven days later by 800 mcg of vaginal misoprostol. The woman then typically aborts the pregnancy within 24-48 hours. In some cases it may take as long as two to four weeks, and additional doses of misoprostol may be necessary. This regimen has a high success rate, but the interval between medication administration and the actual abortion can be relatively unpredictable.

Mifepristone, a progesterone antagonist, has been found to be more efficient than methotrexate in accomplishing medical abortions. Mifepristone's affinity for progesterone receptors is five times greater than that of endogenous progesterone, which plays a very important role in pregnancy development. As opposed to progesterone, mifepristone inhibits transcription, which causes down-regulation of progesterone-dependent genes, resulting in decidual necrosis and detachment of the pregnancy. Mifepristone also compromises the blood supply to the pregnancy.

When mifepristone is given orally and followed by misoprostol two days later, abortion occurs greater than 95% of the time. The success rate is similar to that using methotrexate. However, in the majority of cases, the abortion occurs within four hours of taking misoprostol, a distinct advantage over the methotrexate-misoprostol regimen. Furthermore, mifepristone is more effective than methotrexate in causing first trimester abortions beyond seven weeks. Bleeding typically lasts one to two weeks following either type of medical abortion.

To date, over one million medical abortions using mifepristone have been performed in the world with very rare complications. Use of this medication in the United States was delayed due to abortion politics. A ban was placed on its importation to the United States in the late 1980s, during the Reagan administration, and continued under Bush senior. President Clinton lifted the moratorium in 1993. The manufacturer gave patent rights to the Population Council, a nonprofit research firm, which conducted U.S. clinical trials using mifepristone in the 1990s. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted preliminary approval for its use in pregnancy termination in 1996, pending labeling and manufacturing information. In September 2000, the FDA gave final approval for the use of mifepristone in conjunction with misoprostol for medical abortions.

The FDA approved a specific protocol of 600 mg oral mifepristone on day one, followed by 400 micrograms of misoprostol orally on day 3. However, by the time it had been approved, this protocol was already outdated. Clinical trials have shown 200 mg of mifepristone to be equally as effective as 600 mg, which is significant given the high cost of each 200 mg tablet. Multiple studies have also shown vaginal application of 800 micrograms of misoprostol (as opposed to a lower oral dose) increased the success rate to 99%; this route is also associated with fewer side effects. Home administration of misoprostol has been proven to be safe and well accepted by women. In addition, the FDA approved the use of mifepristone-misoprostol through seven weeks gestation. In general, the earlier the gestational age, the greater the efficacy of medical abortion, but subsequent studies have confirmed success rates in the high ninetieth percentile up to nine weeks gestation using the mifepristone and vaginal misoprostol combination.

Without a doubt, mifepristone offers a safe alternative to surgical abortion. In addition, mifepristone has proven to be an effective form of emergency contraception and shows promise as a treatment option for fibroids, endometriosis, and certain brain tumors"
